PUT AFRICAN/BLACK DIASPORA CUISINE ON “FOODIE RADAR”
Supporting Chefs/Artisans and Small Businesses
The first ever New Jersey African Restaurant Week (celebrating the best of African/Black Diaspora cuisine and culture) is taking place from August 12 – 22 2021.
The New Jersey African Restaurant week aims to stimulate the local economy and encourage people to discover dishes they might not have had the opportunity to try before – this is an opportunity in New Jersey where food from Africa and the Black Diaspora finds itself on the “foodie” radar.
Some of the restaurants will be offering special menus and prices in honor of the week (please click for list of restaurants).
The Celebration also includes a festival on August 21 and 22, 2021 produced with the support of the Mayor’s Office of the City of Newark. Festival includes food tasting, a marketplace with vendors (food, fashion, art, crafts, wellness, beauty) , cultural performances, Afrobeat sets, poetry and more (family friendly). CLICK FOR DETAILS – Restaurant goers get a chance to win free tickets to this festival .
The festival which will serve as the closing event for the “week” runs from 12pm – 7pm and will be held Outdoors at Bisrate Gebriel Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church on 1046 South Orange avenue in Newark
The African Restaurant Week which kicked off in New York city in 2013 brings together locals, tourists, foodies, culture enthusiasts, social influencers, entrepreneurs and more – it is a commitment to community development and social impact and we are very excited to be partnering with the City of Newark to host the FIRST ANNUAL New Jersey Edition.
